OR just for Australia
and deny the rest of the world the enjoyment of playing and or watching & supporting our code in their own country ?
We invented Surf Lifesaving and exported it to the world. Why not AFL Football ?

one major problem that the afl faces is getting people to recognize just how good our code really is.
that you have to understand that the population that live in nsw and qld are so used to having rugby bashed at them. as we do with afl in the southern states that it is going to be very hard to get that real support for the game in these sates no matter how hard you try. they will get satisfactory results with the gold coast team with the amount of victorians living there now and gws will survive some how. but as towards any kind of real support that we see in the southern states.i just cant see it happening. not in my life time.
as for overseas.
well once again we face the same sort of issues. it is going to be incredibly hard for the afl to take our game to the world. but as you are aware it is allready happening in a lot of ways that go unnoticed by a lot of supporters of the code.
as much as people hate andrew dimitriou i can only say this about the man.
he is very passionate about our game. and he will stop at nothing to make sure that it is presented in such away that it is appealing. not only to the opposite sex, but to people of the world in general.
i give it about another 10 years and i think that we will see some real inroads into some of these countries that are allready providing our code with players now.
south africa being the country that could surprise us all.

The main problem is it’s tucked away on pay TV these days so some of us Poms who enjoy it can’t follow it unless we want to put money into Rupert Murdoch’s pocket.

Now that we have all but eliminated the thuggery that used to plague our great game it has become a world class game. Much moe exciting than soccer. I would love it if more countries played it so we could have true International games where we don’t have to compromise the skills and rules that make our game Excellent.

I used to be known as The One until I was cloned by our resident trouble makers and nobody reported my impersonator. Thats why I behaved badly towards people in here late last year and continuing earlier this year. I have stopped now.
most countries have a particular sport that is their own, aussies have afl football across the country now. cannot wait for it to start. very world class no greed. just pure good so follow your team sport

I’m from the US and I have noticed that in alot of ways the AFL has followed our NFL. Which is a good thing. The AFL looks to be the most popular and professional game in OZ, with the most money invoved and biggest fam base. The AFL also has an in-depth drafting system like our NFL. Only problem is that there are too many football codes crammed into Australia. There is; AFL, NRL, Soccer and Rugby Union. For a country with a small population this is alot of football. This means that the best athletes your country has to offer are spread out among the different codes, meaning that none of the codes trully possess the best of the best!!
Here in the US we have only one football code played Nation wide, and that is why it is a lucrative, thriving league made up of the best athleles. If AFL football is the best in OZ and you want it to go world-wide Australia needs to harness all of it’s support in the one football code before it will get to it’s full strength and potential!! (of course this wil never happen)
